Breaking News: Bicyclist killed this morning in Cypress collision

The Cypress Police Department is reporting that a bike rider was killed this morning.

Unfortunately, that’s about all they’re reporting.

According to the department, a crash was reported by several people at 6:06 am Thursday at the intersection of Ball Road and Walker Street in Cypress.

When officers arrived, they found the bike rider was already dead. The victim has not been identified in any way pending notification of next of kin.

The driver remained at the scene.

No other information is available at this time.

A street view shows an intersection with two lanes and left turn lanes in every direction, along with bike lanes on both Ball and Walker.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cypress PD Officer Eric Mount at 714/229-6634.

This is at least the 30th bicycling fatality in Southern California this year, and the 3rd that I’m aware of in Orange County.

My deepest sympathy and prayers for the victim and his or her loved ones.

Thanks to Danny Gamboa for the heads-up.

Our prayers go up for the family and friends of the victim.
That intersection was on my commute 15-16 years ago. I always considered the area safe for riding even during peak hours.

I drive to work and turn onto Ball from Walker and occasionally cycle commute along Ball Rd heading east.

There is a high block wall on one corner that is hard to see around. I saw easy up on that corner yesterday as I was redirected. I wonder if Bicycle rider was riding west facing traffic “salmon” on wrong side against traffic and vehicle was turning right off walker onto Ball and due to wall did not see cyclist in time? I’m only speculating.

      Does anyone know what happened?
Something we can learn from to reduce the chance of repeating such a crash?

Unfortunately I was at the intersection when this happened that morning. The individual rode (perpendicular) directly into traffic that had the green light. The car that struck the individual had no time to react. Prayers for the family and friends
